*Whole Child Home Outdoor Explorer site to open January*
Outdoor education and play supports emotional, behavioral and intellectual development. Studies have shown that students who learn outdoors develop: a sense of self, independence, confidence, creativity, decision-making and problem-solving skills, empathy towards others, motor skills, self-discipline, motor skills, self-discipline and initiative.
How is this implemented at Whole Child Home? Our outdoor space is carefully designed to function as an outdoor classroom. We encourage independent exploration through scavenger hunts, natural wood materials and sensory opportunities. We foster connection and teach responsibilities through our seasonal class garden.
How can this be implemented at home? Enjoying the great outdoors! Nature walks, walks around the neighborhood, trips to the park can all contribute to your child’s connection to nature. Walk slowly, let your child set your pace. You can point out clouds, types of trees or bugs you see, encourage your child to join in the fun and ask questions. Find sensory materials like wood, rocks, pinecones. Press flower petals in a book.
